Is organically certified food acceptable as Halal?
Yes it may be acceptable as Halal as long as the organically certified products and ingredients and the manufacturing premises meet the Halal requirements.
Which industries are eligible for certification?
We can certify a variety of industries including those that produce:
- Basic food, beverages, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and toiletries, healthcare or chemicals
- Food services facilities (restaurants, hotels, catering) only when the premises are completely Halal. Alternatives to this may be arranged under specific Halal guidelines for those seeking a temporary licence or for occasional catering purposes. Please contact us for further details.
- Poultry plant/butchery/cold room where completely Halal premises or under specific Halal guidelines for batch production. All production must be carried out in the presence of an authorised Halal Inspector for those seeking a temporary license.
How does the Halal certification and accreditation process work?
Halal Australia endeavours to make the Halal certification process as simple and efficient as possible. The following is a general guideline of what may be required. However, this should not to be regarded as a conclusive list as requirements could vary depending on the clients specific needs.
1. Registration through completing the application form.
2. Applicant supplies labelling information with a list of all raw materials, ingredients and additives, process flow chart plus floor diagram for each product to be certified Halal.
3. Application is acknowledged.
4. Review of application based on Halal Australia criteria and communication with applicant.
5. Site inspection visit and assessment report (fees apply regardless of outcome).
6. Applicant may be required to submit a Halal program. Halal Australia supports the applicant to develop a program.
7. Signing a mutual agreement including business, intellectual property and product confidentiality.
8. Award of Annual Halal Accreditation or Compliance Certification and Halal Australia’s on going support to approved clients.
What costs are involved in applying for certification?
Halal Australia will always endeavor to provide applicants with full details and explanations of the fees and charges involved prior to commencing work.
Fees are charged according to each individual clients needs and will vary depending on the:
- product category
- risk factors involved from a Halal and quality point of view
- complexity of the work involved
- nature of the company requiring certification
- level of assistance required in developing a Halal Quality Program (HQMAS)
- frequency of inspection visits
- need for on going support systems
Fees for the initial assessment are fixed as follows:
1. Application fee of $100 for the first site and $50 per additional site regardless of outcome
2. Assessment process fee of $200. This is refundable should the company decide to withdraw or withhold its application within 5 working days from the date of application being received.
These costs are normally adjusted from the total cost of certification should the company be successful in its application.
